The Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) congratulates the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), on its 25th year of service. While it is a human rights institution a year younger than PAHRA, both are rooted in and born out of the struggles of peoples against Martial Law and the Marcos dictatorship.
It is heartening that in celebrating its silver anniversary, it is launching also “Top-Level Policy Dialogues”. We do need to craft public policies that apply the cross-cutting principles of human rights to advance human rights and to fill in gaps used to perpetuate impunity.

The ASEAN Human Rights Declaration: Drafts must be published and subject to meaningful consultations with local, national and regional civil society and human rights defenders

We, the undersigned international human rights organizations, are concerned that the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) has yet to take the necessary steps to ensure that the process of drafting the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) is transparent and fully consultative with civil society organizations in the ASEAN region.
The Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates salutes all the workers as Human Rights Defenders in their struggles for dignity and the Right to Development.
PAHRA celebrates with workers all over the world their achievements of trade unions fighting for their right to a future wherein human rights are at the core of both economic recovery and progress. More than ever before, in this globalised world, the situation of workers in one part of the world is linked to the challenges faced by workers in another. Today, there is an imperative for effective expanding unity and solidarity.

FORUM-ASIA and Conectas welcome the report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/19/67), and we strongly support the extension of his mandate for the sustained action of this Council to ensure that the small positive steps taken by the government are transformed into substantive and irreversible reforms in the country.
Statement of THE RIGHT TO KNOW, RIGHT NOW! COALITION
The Right to Know. Right Now! Coalition welcomes the recent public endorsement by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III of the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) law and the release of the executive’s final proposed bill.
The President’s endorsement achieves two things: it removes the main reason why the bill has been stalled in the legislative wringer, particularly at the House of Representatives, and 2. it resolves the “concerns” about the bill that the President has expressed, thereby reducing the danger of a Presidential veto.
